FUTURE stars from the Highgate Harriers put in a strong showing in the final meet of the North West London Young Athletes Cross-Country League at Wormwood Scrubs.

The club’s youngest element have enjoyed a host of successes throughout the season. Among the highlights was winning the boys’ Under-11s title, where Finlay Doyle finished second overall and Theo Machin-Paley finished fifth.

Running over 3,000m, Oliver Haddad, Conlleth Gallagher and Harvey Dodd scored valuable points to help Highgate’s Under-13s boys’ team earn eighth place in the overall league standings.

In the final race of the campaign, Oliver was 13th, Conlleth was 21st and Harvey was 27th out of a field of 35 runners.

In the boys’ Under-15s race Alistair Sleeman was Highgate’s top finisher as he took fourth place out of a field of 25 runners after completing the 4,000m course in 15 minutes 20 seconds.

In the Under-17s men’s race, which saw 13 runners tackle a 4,700m course, Alex Mahchin-Paley came second with a time 18.22. Highgate finished third on the day and seventh in the overall rankings.

In the Under-17s women’s category Georgia Fear showed tremendous winning-form as she clocked a time of 15.05 to finish the 4,000m race more than 90 seconds ahead of her nearest rival.

Highgate’s Under-15s girls’ team finished their season in style with Anna Willis taking ninth place and Lilah Fear and Marjolaine Briscoe finishing 11th and 12th respectively.

Meanwhile Ellie Gilmore won the girls’ Under-11s race, which was run over 1,200m, in 4.58, beating team-mate and runner up Dorothy Brock by just three seconds. The result was extra sweet for Ellie, who finished the season with a maximum 200 points.
