Brexit is the big issue in Hampstead & Kilburn

Thursday, 11th May 2017

• BREXIT is the biggest issue at this election for Londoners, and voters in Hampstead & Kilburn will be right to ask who can best represent their view in parliament.

As a constituency more than 75 per cent voted Remain and there are few of us who do not know or work with a European citizen now facing serious anxiety due to the government’s insistence on pursuing a hard Brexit.

I noted from your report (We love EU! Europhile group endorses Labour Brexit rebel, May 4) that Tulip Siddiq has secured the support of Camden for Europe. I think this endorsement has been hard earned and is the least she deserves.

While Tulip Siddiq’s voting record is clear, I doubt we would receive the same representation from her Conservative opposition.

Given that Nicky Morgan and Anna Soubry, supposedly the most committed Tory pro-Europeans, both voted in favour of triggering Article 50 – can we really expect a fresh-faced MP to rebel in the same manner as Tulip Siddiq?

I advise those in Hampstead & Kilburn – Labour, Tory, Green, or Liberal Democrat – to weigh up carefully who they feel is best placed to advocate in parliament the local view on Brexit.
Given the proven track record of the incumbent, I know where my vote will be going on June 8.
