TOP Camden boxer Martin “Too Much” Power is bracing himself for big upcoming challenges both in and out of the ring.
The 31-year-old (pictured) steps back between the ropes next Saturday when he challenges Liverpool’s John Donnelly on his own patch for the vacant English super flyweight title.
And Martin admits that he’s even more focused for the fight than usual after finding out that his wife Karen is expecting twins in March.
With Martin Junior, 4, and Muryn, 2, already sitting around the dinner table, the proud father is dealing with a new kind of pressure in the ring.
“The news that Karen is having identical twins has certainly given me more of a reason to win this fight,” he said. “Now it’s about putting food on the table.”
Martin has had to get use to new surroundings ahead of the bout against Donnelly at the Olympia Liverpool as the St Pancras Amateur Boxing Club in Talacre Road, Kentish Town, where he usually trains, is closed until December for refurbishment.
It’s just one of many changes the Castlehaven fighter has made ahead of his latest outing on November 19.
“I feel absolutely brilliant considering our gym has been closed.
I’ve been training at Ben Day’s Ringtone Gym in Euston, and without that I wouldn’t have been able to get ready for the fight.
“I’ve also been working on my strength and conditioning with a new personal trainer Ben Poole, which has given me so much.
I’ve got more physical strength, my diet has been better and my energy levels are going through the roof.
“The fight against John is an eliminator for a British title shot so if I win this fight it will open so many doors for me. I’m not going to underestimate John, but I’m in great shape and raring to go.”
