BOSTON Arms caused a major upset on Monday night when they beat Sir Robert Peel to get their hands on the Chalk Farm Pool League’s most sought-after trophy.

The Tufnell Park-based side beat Peel 5-3 at Cousins Snooker Club in Holloway to win the Liam Tarrant Knockout Cup, dubbed the league’s equivalent to football’s FA Cup.

The race to five-frames thriller looked anything but when Danny James and Chris Heim won their frames to give Peel a 2-0 lead.

Hotshot Pat McCaghy is the singles champion

But led by hotshot Pat McCaghy, Boston staged a mighty fightback as they won five of the next six frames to clinch the cup.

The victory will be especially sweet for the Boston boys following a series of near misses during the league’s grand finals night.

Kevin Howard and Danny Fry lost 3-1 against Peel pairing Danny James and Sonny Saunders in the doubles championships.

Boston skipper Andy Hillyer also suffered a 3-1 defeat against The Florin’s Ben Scully in the Captain’s Cup final. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom for Boston as McCaghy beat defending champion Chris Heim 3-1 to capture the singles title.

There were also wins for Boston Rimmers’ Roy Cooper, who retained his seniors title, and Michael Slattery of the Slattery ‘A’ team, who won the Governors’ Shield.
