Blades strike gold in elite competition

SWORDSMEN Kajetan McDonnell and Jean-Baptiste Baigneres were among the top blades from Camden Fencing Club who struck gold at the British Youth Championships.
More than 900 fencers took part in the prestigious tournament, held at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
Representing London, Kajetan (above, left) defeated Orlando Davies 10-4 in the final of the boys’ Under-12s sabre event.
Club-mate Jean-Baptiste (above, right) also captured gold for the capital as he beat Myles Ashworth 10-1 in the final of the Under-12s foil.
Overall 18 youngsters from the Camden club qualified for the showpiece.
Representing the South East, Jonathon Webb beat William Halliwell from the West Midlands 15-12 to win the boys’ Under-18s sabre category.
Nathan Potter, who was competing for Wales, won bronze in the same competition.
Matthew Pease also bagged a bronze after narrowly losing 15-13 against Sam McCellan in the semi-finals of the Under-14s sabre.
