PLAYBOY John Roberts (pictured) won the battle of nerves against Shane Gavin on Monday to sink a match-winning blackball in Division One of the Chalk Farm Pool League.

The pressured pot helped Peckwater Playboys chalk up a narrow 5-4 victory over the Golden Lion to secure their first win of the new season.

The King’s Cross Hurricanes racked up one of the biggest wins of the night when they beat Prince of Wales Dynamos 8-1, while the Boston Arms pocketed a comfortable 7-2 victory against the Lion.

Newly-promoted Islington side the Green Man are still adjusting to life in the top flight as they suffered their second defeat in three games, losing 6-3 against the Boston Rimmers.

There was better news for the Green Man in Division Two as their ‘B’ team won 5-4 against early pacesetters Regent’s Park Tenants Association. There was also a win for Peckwater’s ‘B’ team, who beat the King’s Cross Invaders 6-3.
