Bins are not wheelchair-friendly

Thursday, 16th February 2017

• WE can only speculate at this point whether the fortnightly rubbish collection will lead to more fly-tipping.

However, imagine if you were in a wheelchair. How would you get your rubbish into a bin that is over one metre tall. Your alternative is that you can opt, by February 18, for rubbish bags. These you will have to keep in your home for up to a fortnight and when they are put outside will be prey to foxes and rats. If you do not opt for bags you will automatically get a bin.

Perhaps the council can explain how those in wheelchairs can be helped to access these bins with their rubbish or say what alternative arrangements they will make for them. The council leaflet makes no reference to this.
