Brian Lake: ‘Councillors, there is time to reconsider. But will you?’

• CAMDEN Council meets on December 14 to bring us all happiness and cheer… or perhaps not!

The several-times-postponed proposals for changing parking charges will be put to councillors on that night. Labour councillors will hopefully not vote en bloc in favour of swingeing increases, but we all know that most will take the whip.

One last minute plea; for motorcyclists living in Camden and working elsewhere in the borough, current proposals will mean an annual charge of nearly £500, in residents’ parking fees and a new £365 on-road parking charge while at work, when currently there is no charge at all for a low-polluting form of transport on which many people rely.

It’s simply draconian. Thank you to Cllr Adam Harrison for yet another hit on Camden voters. So brilliant and original to copy Conservative Westminster, the only other London borough to effectively drive out bikers.

Councillors, there is time to reconsider. But will you?
