DESPITE the dwindling number of venues with proper facilities, the Chalk Farm Pool League welcomed two new teams on Monday night as the action returned for what promises to be a pulsating season.

Islington newcomers The Florin and fellow debutants the King’s Cross Barbarians both made winning starts in division two as they pocketed 5-4 victories in their respective games against Slattery’s and The Boot.

Anyone who thinks league standings don’t mean anything after just one game should try telling that to the players from The Lion, who are top following their 8-1 win over the Regent’s Park Tenants Association.

In division one, reigning champions the Sir Robert Peel started their campaign with a 6-3 victory over last season’s runners-up Boston Arms. And newly-promoted Peckwater TA proved themselves worthy of a place in the top flight as they beat King’s Cross Hurricanes 5-4.
