IF Friday’s Rugby World Cup opener between England and Fiji leaves you wanting more then there’s only one place to be this Saturday.
Belsize Park Rugby Football Club open their season with four home games at Regent’s Park in what will undoubtedly be a high-tempo afternoon of try-scoring, tough-tackling action.
The club’s Bulls XV face Southwark at midday while at 2.15pm their 1st XV tackle rivals London Nigerians in the London North-West Three Division.
Their 2nd and 4th XVs will also be in action from 2.15pm onwards.
Belsize Park will have to be at their best if they’re going to top last season’s successful showing, which saw their 1st XV agonisingly just miss out on promotion, while three of their other sides all won their respective league titles.
Senior player Kully Khella is urging supporters in need of an extra rugby fix to hit Regent’s Park. “Saturday is going to be a great club day, so please bring along your neighbours, kids, friends and pets to watch us,” he said.
“The pinnacle of the day will be watching the 1st XV playing London Nigerians.
“There will be an almighty post-match celebration at our new home, White Mustache in Stanhope Street, Regent’s Park, with special offers on during the World Cup.”
Director of rugby Zach Webb echoed the call for new faces at pitch-side.
He said: “We’re always looking for new fans to come along, we’d be delighted to get their support.
“We’re feeling confident ahead of the new season, and we are certainly targeting promotion.
“We’ve added 94 new players to the club over the summer so competition for places will be rife.”
Belsize Park’s 1st XV’s opening game of the season in the London Three gets under way at 2.15pm on the main pitch near the Hub at Regent’s Park.
The club’s Bulls XV get the action underway at midday when they face Southwark.
