Become a school governor in Camden
• BEING a school governor is a fantastically rewarding role.
I first stood as a parent-governor at my children’s primary school and immediately found it engaging and the other governors welcoming. I was quickly able to make an impact, while developing my own understanding and knowledge of schools.
But you don’t have to be a parent of a child to become a governor. Governing bodies need enthusiastic and curious people from all backgrounds and with a broad range of skills.
There are nearly 750 school governors in Camden who play a vital role in challenging and supporting our schools to be better.
As part of our ambitions for Camden, we want governing bodies to represent and include people from all backgrounds. At present, younger people and people from black, Asian and mixed ethnicity backgrounds are under-represented. We’d love you to put yourself forward if you could help governing bodies to address that.
There’s a comprehensive range of training and support available and Camden Learning have set up a dedicated web page to allow people to learn more about the role. Visit: camdenlearning.org.uk/become-a-governor to find out more.
