Badgers pay penalty for glaring miss

CROUCH End Rangers maintained their lead at the top of the Division One table in the Camden Sunday League with a 3-1 victory over London Badgers – but it was far from a straight-forward start to their 2016 fixtures.

Club secretary Declan Taylor showed he’s just as organised on the pitch as he is off it – arranging just the space he needed to fire Rangers in front midway through the first half.

Badgers were handed the perfect chance to level the score when they were awarded a penalty just before the break. But the opportunity was squandered as the spot-kick was sent sailing over the crossbar.

They were punished for that miss when Ramon Chaves doubled Rangers’ advantage early in the second half.

And although the visitors did manage to pull a goal back to set up a nervous finale, Crouch End went on to wrap up a 3-1 win courtesy of a close-range finish from captain Ashley Clark.

Unbeaten Rangers remain one point clear at the top of the table having netted seven wins and two draws from nine league games.

Title rivals Badu are second following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Clerkenwell Old Boys, while Auld Shillelagh are currently in third spot.
