Backing for conscientious objectors

• RISHI Sunak and the G7 politicians meeting in Hiroshima were all ready to fight to the last drop of Ukrainian and Russian blood to sell and test the latest weapons on a real battlefield on real people.

Sending more hi-tech weapons to the Ukraine is only likely to add to the total of over 8,000 civilian deaths, mainly women and children. Horrific, but no comparison with the US killings of 100,000 plus civilians in Hiroshima itself.

On May 15, International Day of Conscientious Objection, #ObjectWarCampaign campaigners, from 30 organisations, handed in to the European Union office in Berlin a petition with almost 50,000 signatures. It demands asylum and protection for conscientious objectors and deserters from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

In London Payday and War Resisters International handed in a copy to ambassador Pedro Serrano at the EU delegation.

#ObjectWarCampaign stated: “The right to conscientious objection, the right to refuse to kill… is now the case for hundreds of thousands of people in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. We call on the governments of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine to immediately stop the persecution of conscientious objectors and deserters. And we expect the European Union and the German government to open the borders to protect them.”
