Lucie Scott on the picket line

• WELL done Lucie Scott for putting into words what all school staff experience when educating young people, (With a heavy heart, we must strike, March 16).

School staff have become social workers, therapists, mentors and counsellors to increasingly vulnerable young people trying to navigate their way into adulthood.

It is an incredibly rewarding job but a job that cannot be sustained with the cuts and lack of support from a government who care so little for the profession.

A government formed mostly, of privately-educated men with no vested interest or empathy for state education.

Lucie’s letter perfectly sums up the every day reality of teaching our children how to thrive and prosper and how crucial it is to support such an honourable profession.
