ARSENAL 1, TOTTENHAM 1
IT was honours even in the north London derby as Arsenal fought back to earn a deserved point against rivals Tottenham this evening (Saturday).
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pounced to blast home a 74th minute equaliser, after Nacer Chadli had opened the scoring for Spurs early in the second half.
But Arsenal will be bitterly disappointed with the outcome having dominated the possession stats, with injuries to Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey only adding to manager Arsene Wenger's frustrations.
"There is no chance that Ramsey or Arteta will be fit for Wednesday's Champions League game against Galatasaray," said Wenger. "We were handicapped by the injuries, so for the last 30 minutes we had no other attacking options."
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, was pleased with the result following his first taste of a north London derby. ''We showed good mentality. We competed well against a big team, and It was a good point," he said.
"Arsenal had a lot of the ball and possession. But we were compact at the back and quick going forward for our goal."
Pochettino had every reason to be the happier of the two managers after seeing his side make the most of their few chances in the 56th minute.
Christian Eriksen stole possession from Mathieu Flamini. The ball found Erik Lamela, who then threaded a pass to Nacer Chadli. The Belgian ran on and stroked the ball past Wojciech Szczesny, who until then had been a virtual spectator.
Oxlade-Chamberlain got the crucial equaliser for the Gunners
Alexis Sánchez came off the bench to make a telling contribution for the equaliser. Sánchez seized on a miscued clearance from Lamela, before finding Santi Cazorla, just outside the penalty area. The Spaniard then whipped in a cross that fell invitingly to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who gave Hugh Lloris no chance from close range.
