There’s been a slight tweak to the trim on the home kit, but otherwise there’s not much different between this and last season’s Arsenal.
There was a kind of reassuring family-dinner feel to the typically dull pre-season friendly.
The same pre-match music, same half time pies in the press room – and the same rhythm and style of play from Arteta’s title chasers.
The Gunners are still causing chaos from corners – two almost identical back post headed goals in the first half proved the difference.
The defence still seems very well organised, and Olek Zinchenko is clearly not completely past it.
His replacement, Riccardo Calafiori, came on to loud cheers from the home fans who had little to shout about in the second half.
First impressions: he’s imposingly tall, looks confident on the ball, but not quite in tune with the Arteta system.
He tucked into centre back after Gabriel was substituted late on.
Captain Martin Odegaad is still jinking about the place and picking out complex passes.
Bukayo Saka is still scoping about on the wing like a deadly effective assassin.
Declan Rice and Thomas Partey – possibly the man of the match today – are still bossing the midfield.
Gabi Martinelli is still getting the pulses going with his electric runs, but still lacking confidence in front of goal.
He made a hash of it after being sent through one on one, with almost too much time to think.
Kai Havertz was, as usual, smart and effective in the build-up – but lacking that deadly finish.
He scuffed with in his best chance of the game.
Fans will be hoping that familiarity doesn’t breed contempt.
What is clear is that the team looks hungry and ready for the new season.
And they are going to need to be, with got a tricky run of opening five league fixtures including Villa, City and Spurs away.
David Raya made a good save from a one on one at the death after a slip from the substitute Kiwior.
It was the only chance of note for Lyon, who were outclassed throughout the game.
There was a welcome home for Ainsley Mailtand-Niles, a throw back to all that pain in the late Wenger era.
