ARSENAL FC: The Crow – Superpower hunger, stressful TV, and Manny Adebayor

IF I had some sort of super power like Spider-Man or Aslan The Lion or Getafix or Jet off-off Gladiators and, through some assumed fantastical sorcery I could dictate how the summer of sports ahead would pan out, it would go like this:

• John Terry misses a penalty in the Champions League final (it was so, so much fun the last time).
• Scottish fluffball Andy Murray finally wins Wimbledon.
• Football League Show host Manisssssh, as they call him on the terraces, gets a promotion from presenting Plymouth’s and Crewe’s goals late at night.
• All the friends of big money sponsors and advertising liggers and general government saps give up their Olympic freebies to the families who didn’t stand a chance in the ticket ballot.

And there’s one more thing, and it’s an important one:
• Emmanuel Adebayor signs for Spurs. It is a curious thing that old Ade should want to play for a club whose fans once sang “his dad washes elephants, his mum’s a… ” –  yeah you did, Tottenhamnettes. But he seems happy with it all and on Sunday against Swansea the ball bounced off his unmarked head into the goal and he was a hero again.
He does that against teams like Swansea but when the pressure is on we all know his offside addiction kicks in. There’s a reason Arsenal let him go, Real Madrid didn’t want to keep him and Man City loaned him out… let’s hope Spurs don’t cotton on until a deal is firmly signed, sealed and locked down. Everybody keep schtum for a couple more months.
