ARSENAL FC: The Crow – Football focus is on money at ‘business end’ of the season

THERE are some up sides to the things that have gone on in the last week. If Man City go on to win the league, it will be yet another club which has won the title more times than Tottenham Hotspurs. Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Newcastle, and so on, are all more decorated than Spurs in the number of league titles column.

Another plus was seeing Sir Taggart and Mancini giving it the ‘all mouth’ lobster gestures at each other during the Manchester derby. If we have to pay for Sky HD slowmos, then that’s what they should be used for.

Finally, if City do prevail as title winners, I’d be happy for Yaya Toure who Arsenal stupidly sold on. He should be running their midfield right now.

Barcelona, the last team to have sold him, could have done with him against Chelsea last week as well and his talent deserves reward.

But despite these reasons to be cheerful, developments at the “business end of the season” – seeeee, I could be a football commentator – have a sinister underbelly.

If Chelsea are to win the Champions League and City are to take the Premiership from United, then what does it say about what you need to win the big trophies?

Certainly not a sensible scouting policy and careful financial management.

Chelsea spent £50million on one player alone, while Man City’s spending is a grotesque tribute to the game’s suffocating greed.

You need big, big money to win the big, big trophies. Not Gervinho.
