ARSENAL fans let off flares and call for a boycott of the club shop as they gathered outside the Emirates Stadium yesterday (Sunday).

Around 200 supporters staged the demonstration in opposition to US billionaire Stan Kroenke’s ownership of the club – and follows the botched European Super League breakaway.

In the hour before the final home match of the season – a 2-0 success against Brighton – the protesters chanted ‘we want our Arsenal back’ and ‘we want you to leave’. Visitors to the club shop underneath the stadium were heckled.

Joe Stewart, one of the demonstrators, said: “We have fans saying that the club is squeezing the fans and not listening to them – and then they go in and buy a full kit for £100. Of course, we want Arsenal to buy new players and invest in the team, but it has to stop somewhere. At the moment they just take us for granted and that has to change. Don’t just sit at home moaning.”

Another, who gave his name only as Harrison, said: “We will be be back every single match until Stan Kroenke leaves. It’s a simple as that. We won’t go away until we have The Arsenal back.”

Other chants jokingly mentioned the Spotify, with the rebel fans supporting the idea of former club players including Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp coming back to help run the case with the support of finance from Daniel Ek, the music streaming app’s co-founder.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has previously urged supporters to get behind the team and has defended Mr Kroenke’s ownership.

“He’s very supportive, very passionate about the club,” Arteta said last week.

“He wants to take the club to a different level. That’s the ambition and that’s why he’s here.”
