Andrew Feinstein has brought division and tension into Camden politics

Thursday, 1st August 2024

• ANDREW Feinstein described his campaign as “joyful” and I am sure that his supporters, many of whom came from outside the constituency, enjoyed it, (Labour smears thousands of voters, July 25).

Not so many people in Camden, who were left to pick up the pieces and clean up the rubbish they plastered all across the constituency.

All political parties have campaigned hard in Camden down the generations, but there is a tradition that on election day we do not approach voters as they come to the polling stations.

We take their numbers and encourage them to vote, but nothing more.

Feinstein campaign supporters stood directly outside some of the polling stations haranguing the public, while thrusting leaflets at them.

Some voters complained to the polling officials but were told there was nothing that could be done.

If Feinstein wishes to conduct campaigns in this way, it is up to him. But the division and tension he has brought into Camden politics have little to do with the culture of respect for diversity that we have encouraged down the years.
