Extract of an ‘open letter’ to Sir Keir Starmer…

• JUST before Christmas 2022 a package addressed to my wife was delivered by courier.

My wife is in a nursing home, has not lived here for five years, and is not on the Camden voters’ list(s).

The package was from Virgin Media, was an Apple mobile phone and SIM card, all allegedly ordered by my wife, who cannot talk, speak, or feed herself; indeed is totally helpless.

As it is a police duty to deal with the criminal law, not mine, I have avoided contacting Virgin Media.

As a lawyer you also are aware such people, Parkinson’s sufferers, cannot sign/take out financial agreements, as these have no legal status whatsoever.

A very helpful person at Kentish Town police station has tried to resolve this matter, and made reports sent to “Action Fraud”.

I have had visits from the neighbourhoods police (astonishingly silly and totally useless) and, believe it or not, a weights and measures officer from Camden Council, some jobsworth obviously deciding that such frauds fall within a weights and measures remit.

We obviously are now living in a Gulliver’s Travels world!

Now, just had a call from “Action Fraud”, almost six months on, a misnamed outfit if ever there was one.

This officer had not read up on this case, was unaware of basic information, seemed keen on closing it down, and intimated that to me.

So why am I telling you all this?

I have learned (with great difficulty) that all “Action Fraud” does is collect information, which is then passed on…

And that this is taxpayer-financed. Isn’t everything?

This is rather useless, in my experience, certainly six months later, a non-actioned, attempted fraud.

And I am informed there are other frauds similar to this, so why this bureaucratic spend?

As I understand I am prevented by the rules from writing directly to the current home secretary, would you please forward this email on my behalf?

And also undertake to scrap this pointless waste when elected in 2024?
