An amazing park in the sky

• IN response to Chris Barker (Highline hang-up, September 17) and Peter Osmon (Highline idea is not good, September 24), I would like to clarify that Camden Highline will not disrupt plans for future transport use of the railway viaduct.

We at Camden Highline have been engaged with Network Rail from the start and we would not be at this current stage without their involvement and assessment of their future needs.

The following findings have been accepted during a consultation with rail industry stakeholders. National Rail have concluded that there is no passenger or freight scheme that requires the use of the trackbed.

In addition Transport for London recently considered the long-term needs of the North London Line as part of a capacity study and did not state the requirement for use of the track bed in the Camden Road area.

The capacity is not needed and the costs are too high to justify the changes to the infrastructure; whereas other planned priority upgrades on the North London Line can be brought forward sooner.

Importantly the construction of the Highline will not prevent this part of the viaduct from being returned to operational use; in fact the Camden Highline will make it easier to reinstate the infrastructure for rail use should it be required in the future. I hope that allays any concerns.

Camden Highline has grown from the community and we aim to get as many people on board as possible. Please visit our website, where you can find answers to further questions, and do not hesitate to get in touch.

There’s an exciting journey ahead before we can stroll along what we hope will become an amazing park in the sky for all of us.
