THE London Blitz booked their place in the quarter-finals of the European Football League on Saturday with a tense victory over Spanish champions L’Hospitalet Pioneers.

The Finsbury Park-based side made the most of their home advantage as they won 21-14 to make it back-to-back wins in the competition, American football’s equivalent of the Champions League.

The Blitz offense got their first points of the game when quarter-back Fred Boyle launched a pass to wide-receiver Charlie Joseph, who sprinted down the field and into the end zone.

The home side coolly added the extra point to open up a 7-0 lead, but the Pioneers hit back with a touchdown of their own to make the score 7-6 after missing their conversion.

The Blitz increased their lead when Boyle raced into the end zone to score, before again adding the extra point courtesy of a well-placed kick from Jimmy Wyatt to open up a 14-6 advantage.

The Pioneers struck back with another touchdown, successfully adding a two-point conversion to tie the game 14-14.

In an action-packed finale, line-backer Steve Clements gave the home fans a reason to roar when he scored a touchdown, with Wyatt again converting to lead the Blitz to a memorable victory.
