Amazing the changes to our streets they can push through in a pandemic

Brecknock Road street change

Council action in Brecknock Road

• HOW good of you to give space over to roads and methods of transport in Camden. I was left speechless by this piece of council action in Brecknock Road (pictured) above.

So a non-polluting form of transport is to be included in the restrictive practices that are being imposed on the rest of the motoring public? So what exactly is happening here?

It seems Transport for London have given Camden a load of money to change our streets without, as far as I can see, any consultation. It’s amazing what an emergency can do to make it easier for government to push through policy.

In the meantime residents will have to survive longer traffic jams in Rosslyn Hill, Parkway, and elsewhere; but be doubly aware that we might get knocked by a powered scooter (uninsured), while we inhale the increased carbon dioxide given off by cars and all those corporate lorries delivering stuff.

So it’s great for people in business or in an expense-account car. Otherwise, on your bike! But, hey, has any government in living memory ever made it a legal requirement to have high-viz, helmets, bell, and front and rear lights?

GK Chesterton once replied to The Times after an article had asked who was to blame for all the trouble in the world with these four words: “Dear Sir, I am”.
