All we can do is watch from the sidelines as a new council leader is chosen

• SO Georgia Gould has thrown her fascinator into the ring in the race for leadership of the council (Georgia Gould launches bid to be next leader of Camden Council, CNJ online).
Will we see a “cloth cap” challenge? Next month some 38 Labour councillors will elect their new leader. Other members of the party will get no say; but look what happened when they did, we got Jeremy Corbyn, twice.
The next Camden Council leader will have to cope not only with further government cuts but the ailing Community Investment Programme, HS2 and the aftermath of the chaotic roll-out of the new waste collection.
A poisoned chalice?
The big question, however, is whether the new leader will be able to exercise the same iron grip on the increasingly fractious Labour back-benchers as did the present leader.Or will we see a similar situation as in the national party?
Alas all Labour Party and other Camden citizens can do is watch from the sidelines and hiss or boo, oh, and pay our increased council taxes.
