All of us together can have an impact on climate change

• THANK you for the special climate change edition.

I wanted to offer some words of encouragement to everybody and tell them that you are not alone.

You can do your bit even if you think you are not making a difference because you are.

I often hear people say, “what’s the point? This so and so country is not doing anything and their emissions are going up, this company is only interesting in making a profit and does not care about the environment, etc. What is the point I am only one person?”

However all of us doing our bit can make a difference.

Many companies are interested in profits, that is true.

However if we, as consumers, stop buying from them and select companies that have better credentials and do more in terms of reducing their carbon footprints, such as B corporations, collectively we make a huge difference.

Taking our reusable bottle with us when out and about and refilling it around London is a very easy step to take, there are lots of water fountains and apps that show you what places can refill it for free.

Carrying a reusable cup for your tea or coffee is also a very simple way to reduce waste.

Making a conscious decision to use your car less for short trips and use public transport, walk or cycle, all count and your friends and relatives notice your behaviour so all this can have a ripple effect.

If you feel powerless and fearful about the future, you can reach out, connect with others that feel the same way as you do.

All of us together can have a big impact.
