A HEARTY mix of silverware and amusement rides ensured that talented young footballers from AFC will never forget their first taste of the international game.
The club’s Under-11s side returned home from the European Soccer Festival proudly sporting runners-up medals after spending five days showing off their skills in France. The trip culminated in a thrilling final which saw AFC narrowly lose 3-2 against French youth team Torcy.
Manager Mohamed Abdulaziz said the break presented the youngsters with the perfect opportunity to bond as a team.
“The boys had an amazing time, although I couldn’t tell what they enjoyed the most – playing football or spending the day at Disneyland Paris!
“Considering some of our boys were playing up a year they did really well to reach the final. In the end we were narrowly beaten by the reigning champions so we can hold our heads up high.”
AFC will be holding trials for seven to 16-years-olds throughout June. Anyone interested should contact club secretary Liton Shah on 07904 415791 for details.
