• OVER the past two years there has been some correspondence in your columns concerning the fate of the Magdala Tavern in South End Green.

Contrary to promises and expectations, the pub has not reopened and is not expected to.

The “Friends of the Magdala” group, while regretting this situation, decided to write about its 150-year-old history in as entertaining a way as possible, through remembrance of the characters and stories that came our way over the last 40 years.

Each Tuesday for a couple of months we have been releasing a chapter (with many photographs) for general consumption, and hope that your readers might be interested in (and even add to) the story. It will continue till the end of May and will remain online thereafter.
