Achievements but how about the scandals?
Thursday, 20th July 2023
• UNFORTUNATELY, Martin Plaut’s letter (Look at Labour’s achievements, July 13) failed to mention such achievements as the fatal Daleham Gardens fire in Belsize Park; the closure of our schools and the killing off of community centres through charging high rents.
Then we have the repeated artificial promises of “investigations” into such scandals as the Chalcots Public Finance Initiative £130m refurbishment which never seem to get published.
Last week we had an article (“market farce”) on the further expenditure on consultants “regenerating” Queen’s Crescent.
Again we had an anonymous spokesperson claiming that Camden Council was investing £1.9m but neglecting to mention that this grant was obtained from the Greater London Authority back in February 2018.
The only “investment” has so far been some rotting planters, two of which have had to be replaced, and painting on the road surface.
Why is the cabinet member responsible for this work, Councillor Nadia Shah, not commenting on this huge waste of money on consultants and on the collapse of what once was a well-run street market previously managed by a local voluntary sector organisation?
