PLAYERS from South Hampstead Tennis Club have been reflecting on a year of unimaginable success that has seen them conquer the court.
The excitement started with the men’s first team causing a real stir when they beat closest rivals Paddington to win the 2011/12 Middlesex Winter League.
That was just the start of the success for the club, based in Brondesbury Park, as the triumphant men’s team went on to capture the Middlesex Cup, beating Will to Win Regent’s Park in the final. A sublime hat-trick of wins was completed when South Hampstead overcame local rivals Cumberland by just one point to clinch the Slazenger Summer League title.
Head coach and first team captain Dan Sullivan said: “It was our intention to have a good year but I could never have imagined just how successful we have been as a club, especially as our second team, captained by Andy Martyn, won their division of the Middlesex League as well.
“I would personally thank all our squad members for a magnificent achievement and hope we can carry on our tremendous form in the future.”
Following in the senior squads’ footsteps, South Hampstead’s under-16s boys’ team won their winter and summer leagues, while the 14 and under boys’ team won their summer league.
