Abolish Right to Buy

Friday, 12th November 2021

• THIS nefarious policy of selling off council homes that were built for working people is gradually, and inexorably, eroding the community spirit of the estate where I live – the Alexandra and Ainsworth (also known as Rowley Way).

One particular individual has already bought and is renting out no fewer than five of the flats, and is known to be seeking to acquire more. His tenants have no interaction with the established community and contribute nothing to it.

At a rough estimate, this individual is currently earning a rental income somewhere in the region of £20,000 per month, without doing anything to deserve it.

Other people, living just a few doors away, have trouble paying their bills and trying to manage on benefits; some of them even working two or three jobs.

There is not much anyone can do to stop this greedy property speculator. What he is doing is perfectly legal. All I can do is write about it to the CNJ.

I urge all readers to campaign for Right to Buy to be abolished in England, as it has been in Scotland and Wales.
