Councillor Anjna Khurana outside the High Court in London
• IT’S wonderful to report that the National Health Service North Central London Integrated Care Board took the decision not to renew the contract of the American health care giant Centene / Operose Health to run Hanley Primary Care Centre in Islington.
This is a huge win for local people, many of whom campaigned through Islington Keep Our NHS Public.
One brave Islington councillor, Anjna Khurana, brought a legal case against this privatisation of our NHS GP service. Though she spoke well, she lost the case in court.
However, there were banners and many people outside from many groups campaigning for our NHS outside the High Court.
When I asked Anjna how she felt on hearing this week’s good news at last, she said: “Relief and jubilation at the fact that patients’ interests still remain at the heart of the GP service.”
Thanks to Anjna Khurana and others who campaign together for our NHS and against Tory privatisation, Islington people know all that campaigning was not in vain!
