• THAT told them, didn’t it? Those bosses from Thames Water summoned before the council’s scrutiny to explain their abysmal record of leaks which have wrecked homes in our borough, (50 ways pipes can flood streets: Thames Water insists it cannot tell where next burst might be, February 27).

First, many of the so-called scrutineers didn’t turn up. Then when tough questions started, the fellows from Thames Water easily wriggled free by blaming it on the Victorians. Anybody got a number for the Spanish Inquisition?
