A sinister and toxic atmosphere has been allowed to develop on this site

‘You are being watched’ notice

• FURTHER to the letter (People are petrified, May 7), on May 5, the sign above was posted outside Camden Council’s New Charlie Ratchford site in Chalk Farm.

It was put up by their contractors in full view of all those living in the area. Apparently it was a warning. Residents are not sure who too. As you can imagine, it came across as extremely intimidating and many took it as a threat.

Neil Vokes, director of development and Kate Cornwall Jones, head of CIP development, both for the council, have admitted that, due to lack of resources, it is impossible for the authority to continually monitor their own site.

Allen Gillespie, part of the enforcement team, therefore relies heavily on residents to provide photographic evidence to back complaints. Unfortunately there have been many.

During lockdown residents have been sworn at and taunted outside their own homes by contractors working on site. Officers are, again, reluctant to take action as this may impede the progress of the project.

The sign (above) is a result of the sinister and toxic atmosphere the council have allowed to fester. Vulnerable residents are too scared now to speak out for themselves.

The council as a whole should be ashamed that this position has been reached and are willing to make excuses for it.
