A question for the council leader about the Local Campaign Forum
Thursday, 24th May 2018
• REBECCA Shirazi writes “…we need to reflect upon the demographics of our councillors elected and scrutinise the candidate selection processes of political parties”, (An unconscious bias and/or institutionalised elitism, sexism, and racism must be playing a part in candidate selection, May 17).
In early 2017 the then chair of Hampstead & Kilburn Constituency Labour Party put forward nominations for Camden Local Campaign Forum without discussion or vote by the party.
That 2017 LCF then shortlisted candidates for the 2018 council elections. That chair of H&K CLP was selected and elected as councillor for West Hampstead ward.
The undemocratic selection of Camden LCFs prior to council elections has been happening for many years with the resultant unhappy consequences for the people of Camden.
Working-class local men, black or white, have been systematically denied the opportunity to have any representation on a Labour-controlled council for a considerable time.
Could the leader of Camden Council explain who exactly selected the 2017 LCF which then went on to impose the council candidates who were then elected in 2018?
