• THE primary justification of any rebuild of Euston station and its environs would be that the Euston Arch, whose destruction was a barbaric act of vandalism sanctioned by an earlier Tory gangster government, be rebuilt.
The architectural pillage proposed by British Rail was hotly contested by Sir John Betjeman, but the prime minister of the day failed to support his opposition.
Rishi Sunak has a chance to make amends, as a reforming Tory, for the prior 1960s Conservative-sanctioned horror.
Paris has many a triumphal arch; in London today, we only have one to speak of. Where on Earth is the Euston Arch (rebuilt) in the new HS2 proposals?
