A mission to tackle loneliness at Christmas – but we need your help
Report says Camden has more isolation than anywhere else in Britain
Thursday, 21st November 2024 — By Geoffrey Sawyer

Let’s make this year’s appeal the best ever – it’s never been needed more!
IT is a stark and heartbreaking line in a report full of statistics: Camden is officially the loneliest place in Britain.
The figures were included in a public health report being digested by councillors this week and placed the borough in the unwanted top place for social isolation.
It is an underlying secret, unnoticed as we walk through our busy, buzzing streets.
At no times is loneliness felt more than at Christmas and this is why every year the New Journal sets out to try and make sure everybody feels invited to the seasonal fun.
Our Christmas Hamper Appeal will not solve everything but our annual collection is a way to show people that they have not been forgotten. We will be delivering the hampers to people all alone at Christmas and those who have suffered hardship in the past year. Maybe you know somebody whose door we should knock on with the surprise gift.
To reach as many people as possible, we do need help from our readers. We are collecting now to pay for these very special deliveries which will go out before Christmas.
If you have the means, any contribution would be welcome and help us make this a Christmas where nobody feels lonely.
There is a donation link is below, just click the yellow button.

Or you can send a cheque – people still do! – to Camden Journal Hamper Fund at 40 Camden Road, NW1 9DR
Can you sponsor our football tournament to support the hamper appeal?
THERE are scores to be settled next Friday night when the Labour rulers of Camden Council take to the pitch at Coram’s Fields against the New Journal in a fundraiser match for our hamper appeal.
The opposition Lib Dem group are making it a three-way football tournament. Come and watch and bring a coin for the collection buckets.
We are also looking for a generous company or organisation from Camden to sponsor the event – could that be you?
We are looking to raise £1,000 – which could be a sole sponsor or two sponsors donating £500. All money goes directly to the appeal. Supporters will be part of reports on December 5, in print and online – and can help the Mayor of Camden with the trophy presentation at the end of the matches.
Call 0207 419 9000 or email caitlin@camdennewjournal.co.uk It’s a great way to show your support for our Christmas appeal. Kick off is at 7pm!
