A law change for assisted dying is popular with the majority
Thursday, 27th June 2024
• NEW polling on assisted dying by Opinium shows that the majority of people in every constituency support a change in the law to allow an assisted dying law for terminally ill, mentally competent adult; for example, 75 per cent in Hampstead and Highgate, 66 per cent in Queen’s Park and Maida Vale, and 73 per cent in Holborn and St Pancras.
Furthermore the poll found that every constituency in England and Wales has a majority in favour.
If you support a change in the law please let all the candidates know, before the general election, that dignity has your vote at dignityindying.org.uk – it takes just a minute to complete the form and the candidates will be emailed on your behalf.
The campaign has made great progress in recent months and three parties (Liberal Democrat, Green and the Conservatives) have included assisted dying in their 2024 manifestos.
In March Sir Keir Starmer reaffirmed his personal support for law change and has committed to make time in parliament.
It is important to keep up the momentum so the next parliament can introduce a law to provide terminally-ill people with a choice to end their lives should they get to a stage where palliative care is no longer able to ease their pain and suffering.
