A grim record in Gospel Oak

Thursday, 26th April 2018

• ON Saturday the élite of the two local Labour parties, Gospel Oak and Haverstock, were out strutting their stuff in Queen’s Crescent. One wonders how the councillors explained their achievements over the past four years.

In 2014 there was a thriving and growing street market managed by the local community with around 55 stalls. On Saturday there were just seven when I counted them, thanks to the management of the council.

In 2014 there were about 90 council rent flats in Gospel Oak; now there are just 44 and some 17 or so unsold private flats at prices up to £1.3million which have been on the market for over a year.

The crescent is a regular fly-dumping ground. Youth violence is increasing, as reported in the New Journal. Drug dealing and anti-social behaviour is rife.

However, we must congratulate our local councillors on their commitment to “conversations” and consultations. Alas these do not lead to any action. Hopefully electors will take this into account when casting their votes.
