A better vision for Camden facing climate crisis
Thursday, 5th August 2021
• IT is a pity that Georgia Gould does not accept that it is at least partly the result of her cabinet’s policies that lost the Fortune Green by- election, including:
– the so-called Community Investment Programme which has displaced communities and caused very high carbon emissions – there are better ways of building social housing without destroying our neighbourhoods and our future;
– lack of action on the climate emergency with continued investment of the council pension fund in fossil fuel extraction, resulting in continued climate chaos with flooding and unbearable temperatures – this is our money being invested;
– council support for the new waste incinerator at Edmonton, which will result in more harmful burning of our waste into the future, when the evidence shows there are far better alternatives.
We need a better vision for Camden, which faces up to the climate crisis and takes real action. If the current administration cannot deliver this we need new leaders.
