SUNDAY marks the anniversary of an unsolved murder on the dance floor.

The Tribune publishes an annual reminder of a series of cases in which detectives failed to find the killer – including the death of Wajahat Sheikh, who died after being attacked in a packed nightclub.

Despite hundreds of people being inside the Scala in King’s Cross, on May 19, 2002, nobody could – or would – help police find the man who delivered the fatal blow to the 21-year-old student. The best description anybody had for the attacker was that he had “googly eyes”.

The Met has already said in previous years that it would take new information to come to light for officers to re-open the case files. Mr Sheikh – also known as Junaid – died at UCLH after being punched and kicked at a Cookies And Cream club night. The case is largely forgotten and Mr Sheikh’s relatives live overseas. The killer is likely to be in his 40s or 50s now, having got away with murder.

“All lines of inquiry into the murder of Wajahat Sheikh were pursued with a negative result,” a police spokeswoman said to previous Tribune enquiries. “The case was closed.”
