Bus stop advert

• PICTURE this.

Two men. One of them is wearing the traditional, heavy slave irons as his collar, and the chain is held by the other.

Is this a historical representation of the atrocities of slavery?

No. It is a photograph celebrating summer activities in Camden. Both men are white transvestites and are clearly having fun with their little game.

This image (see detail above) is a cropped, highlighted, close-up of the one that was on The Camden Magazine cover and is now on bus stops outside schools for goodness sake.

What is the message here? Slavery is fun? That such games are OK in public? That mocking black history is fine as long as you’re a drag queen?

That if you are a local authority that you can be disrespectful to BAME heritage to the extent that this is your favoured image to promote your summer programme of activities?

Who chose this photo? Please remove it from the bus stops asap.
