Thanks to the staff of Highgate Cemetery and those who helped at the funeral

Martin Short and his son Ramsay

• I WOULD like to extend publicly my most heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the staff of that most wonderful of Camden peaceful spaces, Highgate Cemetery.

While many know it is a tourist attraction, the cemetery is also still a working graveyard accepting both cremation interments and burials.

My father, Martin Short, who sadly passed away, was recently buried in the East Cemetery, and the whole process was handled sensitively and with great care, understanding and patience by all, particularly registrar Claire Freston and sexton Victor Herman.

In these difficult times, and under a lot of pressure, they took everything in their stride answering countless questions and respecting the family’s wishes.

When more than the officially sanctioned 30 mourners turned up for the funeral they controlled a potentially painful situation calmly and with common sense.

Highgate Cemetery is run and maintained by the Friends of Highgate Cemetery Trust as a not-for-profit charity. As such it is supported by donations and an individual membership fee of just £20 per year. It is entirely worth supporting.
