Shooting victim, 46, in ‘critical’ state

31 January, 2020 — By Samantha Booth

A MAN was last night (Thursday) in a critical but stable condition in hospital after being shot in Queen’s Park.

The 46-year-old victim suffered injuries to the head after the shooting in Bravington Road, near the Mozart estate, on Wednesday afternoon.

A section 60 order, which allows police to stop and search without the need for suspicion, was authorised for parts of Westminster, Brent and Kensington and Chelsea until the early hours of Thursday.

Karen Buck, Labour MP for Westminster North, said this was in response to possible gang tensions.

No one has been arrested and enquiries were under way yesterday to notify his next of kin.

Gun crime offences have been steadily rising in Westminster. In the 12 months until December there had been 103 recorded offences.

Detective Inspector Richard Russell said: “Communities have a vital role to play in tackling violent crime and we urge anyone with information to tell us what they saw.

“We need the public’s help to find those responsible and keep London safe. Your phone call could save a life.

“Anyone who has doubts or concerns, please be assured we have experience officers standing by to take your call and anyone who gives information will be fully supported.”

• Anyone with information is urged call 101 quoting 4343/29 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
