Only some people might need help with ‘cheap’ shopping…

23 January, 2020

• READING the report (People’s solution to the food challenge, January 16), I couldn’t help feel a little uneasy with the phrase, “to provide cheap weekly shopping for those living on housing estates”.

Do you really think that all people living on housing estates require help to buy their shopping? Wow. That is a very narrow view of people who live on estates.

I understand some people may need a little help on estates (and anywhere else for that matter), but to phrase it like this is putting a lot of people down who are getting by or doing fine, while living on estates; and generally giving an impression (and promoting a stereotype) of people living on estates as poor and needy.

Surely the article should have read “to provide cheap weekly shopping for some people living on housing estates”.
