MURDER detectives have launched an investigation after a young man was shot dead during rush hour in Kilburn High Road yesterday (Thursday).
Paramedics raced to the scene shortly before 5:30pm on Thursday and found a man in his early 20s who was pronounced dead at scene near the junction of Netherwood Street.
Scotland Yard said the victim’s family had been informed, but they are waiting for formal identification to take place.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are leading the investigation.
Friends of the victim – who was known as “Loopy” – gathered around floral tributes near the scene of the shooting today.
Friends of the victim said he was a “good guy”
One friend, who did not want to give his name, said: “He was a good guy. He loved his girlfriend a lot. He was someone that definitely didn’t deserve what happened to him.
“When you hear someone getting shot you think there has to be a good reason. I know he didn’t have problems where people would want to shot him.”
Hampstead and Kilburn MP Tulip Siddiq said: “I was deeply shocked to hear of the shooting on Kilburn High Road. This is a truly appalling incident and my thoughts are with the victim and his family.
“I am receiving updates from the local borough commander and would like to thank the emergency services for their tireless efforts in reassuring the local community.”
