Momentum should say why there should be a continuing push to the left by Labour

23 January, 2020

• MOMENTUM’S letter against Sir Keir Starmer left out the very thing I had hoped to hear, (Sir Keir is making an opportunistic tilt to the left, January 16).

Under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership the party turned away from Blairism and neo-liberalism, and the party moved towards the left.

Labour lost the 2017 election, and Corbyn had negative approval ratings every week of 2018 and 2019. In the 2019 election, the country gave a landslide to a far right government, while Labour had the worst election result since 1935.

I do not understand Momentum’s conclusion that Labour members must therefore vote to continue taking Labour to the left. Could they explain in just one clear sentence please?
