Rohit Dhillon is helping the community during the coronavirus pandemic by offering free laundrette services to the elderly

A FAMILY-OWNED laundrette is offering a free laundry service for elderly people who are stuck at home during the coronavirus crisis.

The 1 Stop Wash Eco-Friendly Laundry & Dry Cleaning will arrange to pick up laundry from the home of anyone over the age of 70, wash it, and return it for free.

Rohit Dhillon has managed the Caledonian Road laundrette since taking over from his parents last summer.

He’s spent that time making the business as green as possible, but says the laundrette’s good progress was dealt a blow by the coronavirus pandemic.

“We were doing really well before the virus, and now business has halted completely,” said Mr Dhillon.

“This is a good time to work with the community. It’s time for businesses like us to take responsibility and take any sort of action that can help people.

“So we’re offering a free laundry service to people aged 70 or over. We have quite a few customers around that age who used to come in to the shop, but that has all stopped obviously since the restrictions.

“We’ve launched this service as our way to help our community.”

All delivery drivers will be equipped with face masks and will observe social distancing rules while picking up and returning laundry.

Anyone who wants to use the service should call the laundrette on 020 7837 4997 and press option 1.
