The Director’s Cut of Alien only has a few additions and several subtractions (making the whole film one minute shorter) and is a treat on the big screen.
It’s incredible seeing the 1979 Sigourney Weaver – without a scrap of make-up, her thighs patterned with stretchmarks (this you never notice when you watch it on video) implying she grew so tall very quickly.
Her authority as Ripley, her uprightness, remains unmatched.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an unwise remake. It’s not terrible, just grim, my God.
There are more severed fingers and bits of skin being kept in old newspapers than I care to remember.
It’s number one at the US box office. Young America’s stomach is tough as Perspex.
