A great place to celebrate Diwali - Hasan Raja

A festival of food

Hason Raja is one of the more established restaurants on Southampton Row in Holborn. On my visits it has always delivered exquisite food and value with stylish service.
Recently the menu has undergone a radical change and now has even more choice, with a range of unique dishes inspired by the newly installed and star rated top chef.
Hason Raja is delighting diners with a new cuisine and some interesting diversions: Tandoori Paslion (a rack of marinated lamb), a Macher Jholl (fish curry Bangladeshi style) or Jhinga Piaza (Queen prawns with pomegranates and spices) and there’s even a goose on the menu.
This exciting and brave new cuisine brings the Hason Raja to a level of excellence found in the more expensive restaurants but retains its value for money.
My appetiser, the ‘starter selection’ was an assortment of prawns, salmon murg tikka with broccoli. This fresh mini buffet a bounty of flavours, textures and spices, with meat and fish is a perfect treat to start your meal.
The Hason Raja has always excelled at vegetable dishes and has many varieties, the Bagari Baingon – a dish of spicy baby aubergine, fresh curry leaves and mustard seeds is just one of the new options to try.
You’ll find tilapi fish, the versatile small white variety, takes seasoning well and my companion’s was cooked to perfection, sweet tasting fillets with coriander and spices this traditional dish being another added to the menu by the new chef.
I’d chosen the the Shathkora Mangsho a meat dish of diced shanks of lamb in a special lemon based sauce, accompanied with some great rice a naan bread and the baby aubergines in all a great combination. Hason Raja has always ranked high in terms of standard and with the new choice menu gives you more.
For a refreshing take on Indian cuisine it always delivers that extra bite. Recommended.
